We recently encountered a large bay that had previously been treated as 5 individual windows (that means, 5 individual rods with 5 separate drapery pairs). I wish we had <i><b>that</b></i> before photo, but the client cleared it away before we arrived!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">If you are doing the math, you can see that this is well over 200" of windows. The wall isn't actually curved, but does have several angles making the wall appear as an arc. You can quickly see that 5 separate rods would mean 10 brackets, and that in itself will not be very appealing! </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg38FjsVIK_qLH_2UphX32xO7AfaUaqr9dHJlkukn_at-mzssluAssBrAPKbfwf4mDpvF9I6IuWJPTbLZehjyKaFCBGtA3_gqcbqVZ0f3p5U0pMbTOZqf3BpMkPKLY-I11WcIYLjGficIk/s1600/curved+window.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="525" data-original-width="1080" height="308" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg38FjsVIK_qLH_2UphX32xO7AfaUaqr9dHJlkukn_at-mzssluAssBrAPKbfwf4mDpvF9I6IuWJPTbLZehjyKaFCBGtA3_gqcbqVZ0f3p5U0pMbTOZqf3BpMkPKLY-I11WcIYLjGficIk/s640/curved+window.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The awesome view to the pool in the back was something the client wanted to see, and privacy was not an issue. Thank goodness this was NOT the west side of the house, so heat from sunlight was also not a problem.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Our job was to make this look pretty, as it should since this is the first thing you see upon walking in the front door.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">We suggested a light color, woven sheer fabric, with an embroidered design. There are many available in our library of fabrics, but this classic pattern was an easy choice for our client. She wanted something that would not be distracting, but also have enough of a pattern that is was not boring. We suggested this particular fabric since it had the color and texture she was looking for, and the geometric pattern felt very fresh and updated. The slight sheen to the embroidered design gave a bit of a formal feel to this "formal living room", too.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The measuring of the rod proved to be the more labor intensive part of this project. We provided a template to <a href="https://www.helserbrothers.com/" target="_blank">https://www.helserbrothers.com</a> and they were able to make the perfectly shaped traverse rod! These drapery panels are operational! With the use of a baton (hidden behind the first pleat on the left and right of center), the client can open and close this huge treatment with ease. During those fun, summer get-togethers, they are able to completely open up the outdoors to the indoors, but during the winter months, keep them closed as a beautiful backdrop (and we can't wait to see how the Christmas tree looks with the new backdrop)!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span>

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The formal living room (piano room) has some beautiful antique pieces, which are always a plus if you like a timeless, traditional interior. <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">Her first task was to find new light fixtures, our first task was to find wallpaper and fabric we liked. The second thing we all needed to decide on was the drapery hardware. You notice I said SECOND. Drapery hardware is ordered as a custom finish, so we were just waiting to see what we needed to match---that seemed to be the easier direction to go.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">The choice for wallpaper was <a href="https://www.thibautdesign.com/catalog/product/details/product/peacock_garden_t24356/material/wallpaper/colorway/blue_35/?s=1" target="_blank">Thibaut's</a> Peacock Garden. Our goal was to add more blues, but the addition of the tan color in the design was a great way to introduce a slightly darker color to the dining room and living room. A fresh coat of Antique White paint was the answer for those rooms, and that was just enough color to make the crown molding stand out and make the rooms seem just a little warmer.</span></div>

We have ordered our custom iron hardware from them for years, and their great selection of colors provided us with our two-toned hardware decision. <div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">If you notice how nice the patterned worked out on the panels, that's because it was intentional. Pleating can be done randomly on geometric patterns, but it can cause the final look to be busy. We specify that they are pleated-to-the-pattern. You should be given that option when ordering custom window treatments.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">Another part of updating window treatments includes the height of the rod. We did raise the hardware to open up the space, and although they could go higher, we like to keep in mind that going too tall can make a "disconnect" between the window treatment and the window. That is our thoughts, and our suggestion to our clients. Finding that happy medium can be the difference in making something look too trendy. We want this UPDATED dining room and living room to last another 15-20 years!</span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Many people have immediately asked "where are you going" when they hear we are relocating. If we've seemed hesitant to blurt out the address it's because we don't want to mislead people into thinking the new location will operate like a retail establishment. A big part of moving to the 32nd street location was to carry more inventory. However, you need a lot of traffic to move a lot of inventory, and sadly, the customer base hasn't increased enough to validate the larger overhead.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">All of our fabric samples, furniture lines, wallpaper companies, window covering vendors, or <b>any custom orders </b>will be making the move with us. Also, for those of you who love <i>Trapp Candles</i></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> and <i>Beatriz Ball</i> metal ware, you'll still be able to stop in and purchase those items along with a few decorative pieces you see in the windows!! <span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is the biggest advantage to our clients---making appointments easier for you! By not posting "hours" we will not have the worry of standing behind a counter all day, but instead be more available to make appointments to meet in our client's homes or at the shop. We love the one-on-one working relationships we have with our customers, and whether it's choosing wallpaper, paint colors, drapery, blinds, shutters, sofa or chairs, being more accessible has become even more important over the past 10 years. We think our service counts for a lot---especially in these times of so much "internet buying". Sometimes you just need some expert advice and fresh ideas! That's basically been our tagline since we started business.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">We always felt a great deal of pride in making our shop (either large or small) look great for every season and after every market buying trip. The work and time involved in doing this can at times be overwhelming, and very time consuming. We will also miss seeing the variety of people who came by and gave us an insight into their lives, some of you are so inspiring! Our hope is you'll find us at 2217 S. Main Street with our "OPEN" sign turned out, or call to say "hey, I'm coming by tomorrow afternoon, will you be there?". We sure don't want to lose touch, then we would be sad!</span></div>

The house was used to benefit <a href="http://www.carthagepress.com/news/20160831/green-house-goes-pink-tour-to-benefit-mbhf8200mammogram-program" target="_blank">McCune Brooks Healthcare Foundation's</a> mammogram program. The entire home was decorated by several area designers and then open for viewing. It will soon be sold to a new owner!<br />

If you are from the Joplin or Carthage, Missouri area, you have surely driven past this stately home located at 903 S. Main Street, in Carthage. The master bedroom was our choice, and is located on the upper left side if you are viewing the house from the front.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjftNzRJ7PFeLNqpvIIIkjDrz6qysJjfFOJMLIJYFu7p9lAdCkpV21xOUUKGdcm_kMhdTtbtICF-De1gi0iy480kGciUftftQM_maLJj8S8r3xn5yGrspdKFmlFv3p-bAkXhsCicAVH0iI/s1600/before1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjftNzRJ7PFeLNqpvIIIkjDrz6qysJjfFOJMLIJYFu7p9lAdCkpV21xOUUKGdcm_kMhdTtbtICF-De1gi0iy480kGciUftftQM_maLJj8S8r3xn5yGrspdKFmlFv3p-bAkXhsCicAVH0iI/s400/before1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The bedroom, and the majority of the house, was papered with what I was told was Brunschwig and Fils grasscloth. Some rooms left it intact, as was the upstairs landing. It was repaired and painted, and came off looking very rich. A pale grey paint was chosen which gave a new look to the previous red grasscloth, which had faded from many years of morning sunlight.<br />
<br />
Our gold masterbedroom's wallpaper had darken behind some furniture and in need of repair as well. Luckily, the foundation was willing to have it stripped off and only a small amount of the wall underneath needed some patching----whew!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLmUQHqzvrT4ycJK0TD0aaxKC_546cE3-1VPrRTvbw-PaAONw77xCyIn4r04_t96ydO04CRHNvzsfaLO7IiqiQ12jAokqQcJPonwdkKvsqHrQKD3rmNuYxBrJPncxGZpc2Gi-XicTx1wo/s1600/before2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLmUQHqzvrT4ycJK0TD0aaxKC_546cE3-1VPrRTvbw-PaAONw77xCyIn4r04_t96ydO04CRHNvzsfaLO7IiqiQ12jAokqQcJPonwdkKvsqHrQKD3rmNuYxBrJPncxGZpc2Gi-XicTx1wo/s400/before2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
This photo shows the landing color through the doorway. Notice the transom over the door was covered in the gold grasscloth! This wall seemed to be in good shape, but the color scheme was not what we were envisioning for this beautiful room.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrafppeTKeG5A71_ezQjIlMVpHcIQHq6AaFusGCUbcRiqKYS40Env8K3XFAQHI6OZVOC2ZSheSDHg7h-j7Nnyfg51AAj2W1vISHmtqlucvDQH8GCK6m1cyZgDtQ2tO-UGuqHmd3fkSlBA/s1600/before3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrafppeTKeG5A71_ezQjIlMVpHcIQHq6AaFusGCUbcRiqKYS40Env8K3XFAQHI6OZVOC2ZSheSDHg7h-j7Nnyfg51AAj2W1vISHmtqlucvDQH8GCK6m1cyZgDtQ2tO-UGuqHmd3fkSlBA/s400/before3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
This wall provided the inspiration of natural sunlight and a great view of the huge Ginkgo tree (one of 3 on the property!). The fireplace mantle was not original to the home, and we did not know when it was added. The tile was a mustard/brown/black color, and definitely not part of a color scheme we wanted to work around. Fortunately, the master bathroom was being totally redone and we scored some of the Carthage marble that was being removed to make room for a glass shower!<br />
<br />
Notice the mauve carpet in the photo above---it was also removed by the people working for the Foundation and the wooden floor was refinished with a beautiful walnut color stain. It made a striking contrast with our light, airy color scheme:<br />

With the help of some awesome reps and giving vendors, we were able to use Thibaut wallpaper and fabric, Norwalk furniture, Lili Allessandra bedding, Global Views accents, Angela Rose Distributing for hardware, and Wendover Art for our renovation!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

See what I mean about the bright sunlight being a great inspiration. Just look at the way it shines across the seating area!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Besides the orange accents in the pillow, lamps and artwork,we had the little closet papered with a fun orange geometric wallpaper from Thibaut, as well, which added the little kick of something unexpected to the room. We also changed out the handles and knobs with glass and silver hardware to match the original glass doorknobs on the doors. The large built-in you see was added a few years ago to house a TV and provide extra storage. There was originally a doorway to the nursery from that area.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkTQlRqN2cu6_iSbcOh-dzHAVkobP0Brc9WVxal_Vn-I9VblakuwmGadHg7QUshXV8jcFci2i3k6Lt4yMNEdkcQa9lhTzmTwM9twh7_V0XYi-H5HiVLloEm509o9cC2nojW_OGAZ7e20c/s1600/024.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkTQlRqN2cu6_iSbcOh-dzHAVkobP0Brc9WVxal_Vn-I9VblakuwmGadHg7QUshXV8jcFci2i3k6Lt4yMNEdkcQa9lhTzmTwM9twh7_V0XYi-H5HiVLloEm509o9cC2nojW_OGAZ7e20c/s400/024.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
This angle shows the doorway to the master bathroom. We love the decorative chest from Global Views---it has classic detailing, but is also somewhat contemporary in appearance. The ceilings were tall in this house, but it was also finely detailed, so any furniture pieces that are too bulky looked out of place. The Norwalk chairs have a low back so they didn't hide the fireplace.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJaKbw4C57A1WytuMuXu-tqyvEgBV_eUdud-ZH9LdXctVMhnO8CPINvlge9GNjxTof6SYdBticiSUuli9ohmCch7cPq7U4kF8zJhyEJcqtZvrSE3wP_GaEwVqNyh9uirI0zdpU-IJUV-E/s1600/095.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJaKbw4C57A1WytuMuXu-tqyvEgBV_eUdud-ZH9LdXctVMhnO8CPINvlge9GNjxTof6SYdBticiSUuli9ohmCch7cPq7U4kF8zJhyEJcqtZvrSE3wP_GaEwVqNyh9uirI0zdpU-IJUV-E/s400/095.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Notice that we had the fireplace painted a pale grey, which blended very nicely with the marble from the bathroom. It also tied in with the rest of the house, as the landing was very close to the same color and it was repeated in several other rooms. We used a lot of polished silver accents, but kept the gold/brass around the fireplace opening, keeping it from looking too cold.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjenEXkj_5AT8-DnZ_jdLmelaj4y4WRynnzSwrJq3OIfpblkm8xtSCvNflIV-aTP-GFv7pF7cv88xlFlLWxnmR2ojx8O41hYZotC0057ZjE9f1EjhdH9gKxb2k9KUyk7He60wy-Zoi1Ew8/s1600/094.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjenEXkj_5AT8-DnZ_jdLmelaj4y4WRynnzSwrJq3OIfpblkm8xtSCvNflIV-aTP-GFv7pF7cv88xlFlLWxnmR2ojx8O41hYZotC0057ZjE9f1EjhdH9gKxb2k9KUyk7He60wy-Zoi1Ew8/s400/094.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Our final accents of glass spheres on the fireplace with the colorful watercolor and orange and green florals were recipients of the morning sunlight.<br />
<br />
It was a bit of a sad day when the furniture and decor was removed and brought back to the shop. We left the drapery in hopes that the new owner will love them as much as we did.....and possibly would want some of the items brought back :)Madison Lanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01022593542276855220noreply@blogger.com0Carthage, MO 64836, USA37.176447 -94.3102228000000237.0751975 -94.471584300000018 37.277696500000005 -94.148861300000021tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7560089491838885541.post-85732947436520221192016-09-30T16:10:00.000-05:002016-09-30T16:10:01.739-05:00Yes, you can have a cream sofa!<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Norwalk Furniture has added more performance fabrics to their line. And even better news is that it is not one of the higher priced fabrics----in fact, it's one of the lesser priced ones! That is hard to believe, I know, but besides having a nice texture to them, and good colors, they didn't out-price themselves. We love being able to brag about durable and washable fabrics, but it's tough when it makes the furniture cost prohibitive. With their new "<a href="http://www.revolutionfabrics.com/" target="_blank">Revolution</a>" fabrics, Norwalk's furniture prices won't give you sticker shock!</span></div>

Woven with Olefin yarn, the fabrics are virtually unstainable, easy

resistant to fading from the sun. Revolution Performance Fabrics® are

The sofa in the photo above, is from Norwalk, and is their best seller. We think it will fit in great with a wide variety of home decors. The rounded arms are not oversized, but the cushions are comfortable, and can be ordered in several grades of firmness. The legs have a few options, and although you can't see them in the photo, we are partial to the style we have on this one. But if a skirted sofa is what you need, this one can be ordered with the skirt, too!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span style="color: #4c1130;">There's a lot of options in furniture, and we have several in stock, but if you can wait 30 days, Norwalk is also a custom order and can be made to your exact needs.</span></b></div>

We do believe most people are not willing to sacrifice their favorite pieces of furniture for the sake of a trend.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxvCM7nFpBO-kIW0uScrhNQ-RaHo1wgy1jemkK-oMPbeXx8ar8lBQMWyMDXjZtx236KelHhgeccHcqXRhHVQ10csfAWqydC6WIFZkGeB0Kp4F9YapDU-_kqL352pMXXoqr83encPP3WbE/s1600/red+chairs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxvCM7nFpBO-kIW0uScrhNQ-RaHo1wgy1jemkK-oMPbeXx8ar8lBQMWyMDXjZtx236KelHhgeccHcqXRhHVQ10csfAWqydC6WIFZkGeB0Kp4F9YapDU-_kqL352pMXXoqr83encPP3WbE/s400/red+chairs.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
The recent photo of the red chairs prompted a lot of customers to ask: " is red back?" We didn't know if left! However, how it is displayed in your home is probably the part of the equation that caused it look dated. These particular chairs are a custom order for a remodel, and were chosen based on the client's love of the color. BUT, they will be on a fresh backdrop of pale walls, brightly patterned area rug, even lighter color drapes, and a khaki tan sofa. The pillows we chose for the sofa will have some of the familiar jewel tones, but the overall look is still a fresher look than the dark golds and muddy browns of a few years ago.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs7EwWvmzGfZFafUfVj3h6mM5ekZHpQXbuO4QMuPdgRbml953IRyWBNadbsFI-Z1x38bwSxgUxJGpyggYy2qdR_5JEo8-OdsKeHcFRRUzv8jE1bUWB_CloLQoxqQfUxZm-Ko709X_0iJ4/s1600/brown+chair.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs7EwWvmzGfZFafUfVj3h6mM5ekZHpQXbuO4QMuPdgRbml953IRyWBNadbsFI-Z1x38bwSxgUxJGpyggYy2qdR_5JEo8-OdsKeHcFRRUzv8jE1bUWB_CloLQoxqQfUxZm-Ko709X_0iJ4/s400/brown+chair.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
Oh no, you still have the brown chair/sofa and you are tiring of the drab, dark den you loved just a few years ago. Those pieces aren't out of style, but the feel of the room needs lightened up. Such an easy fix with a few lighter colors in pillows and/or throws placed around makes a quick change to that! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvhAvJJdsjNuVA_DAWlnItNh6tUVxrEgOMPeAGyVW5nA6NX9rbZ1pGQQhiu5vR2MWf1eR-8eI8hQovIuyGWYZYqtuwtzKn9mY0sqLIJD9MGUyfD9ITFfLkdqgnogIX121-YQdz9MVetzs/s1600/grey+sofa.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvhAvJJdsjNuVA_DAWlnItNh6tUVxrEgOMPeAGyVW5nA6NX9rbZ1pGQQhiu5vR2MWf1eR-8eI8hQovIuyGWYZYqtuwtzKn9mY0sqLIJD9MGUyfD9ITFfLkdqgnogIX121-YQdz9MVetzs/s400/grey+sofa.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
So you really are ready to change up a few things, but not sure how to add your other colors of accessories that you still love. The grey tones you are seeing around really do work with color! Can you count how many different colors are teamed up with our grey sofa/chaise? Any and all of those look great with this neutral color, so go ahead, bring on the new color!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #0c343d;"><i>We are happy to work with your favorite colors and help you add in the new pieces without having to start over again! Don't forget, if it's a fresh coat of paint you need, we are available to help you choose that, too. Come by and we'll talk about how we can help.</i></span></div>

<br />
If you've visited our store you know we carry several lines of upholstered furniture. <a href="http://www.norwalkfurniture.com/" target="_blank">Norwalk</a> Furniture, made in Norwalk, Ohio, has added even more "<i>cleanable and scrubable</i>" fabrics to their line. They were one of the first companies to offer Sunbrella fabrics, but now they are also able to offer a very similar fabric, <b>BUT AT A BETTER PRICE</b>!<br />
<br />
You'll be thoroughly impressed with the feel of these new fabrics, and it's hard to believe you can even clean with bleach if you should need to. These Olefin fibers DO NOT have a chemical treatment, so no worries about your family and pets being exposed to dangerous chemicals.<br />
<br />
<br />
<img height="257" src="http://www.norwalkfurniture.com/assets/inspirations/thumb/easton-room.jpg" width="400" /><br />
<br />
<br />
Now you can buy that furniture while your kids are young: not only is a well made sofa going to hold up to heavy use, but now the fabric will not be at risk from your pets and/or kids!<br />

However, that shouldn't mean you cannot find those extra items that make your home reflect your personality. We work hard to find something from all price ranges. Here are some actual examples of our current shop inventory:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqD6aamnWFW01uCtUctpSZY53b_MLNpFyWDP5CPyjjhEdoHzFeMTdYl3CvUj_BLREpgRQGaOPm2cQWwc3lNGgIe0rIYd2lYI6C8PyOOhe9ZZ7MjAUwQW7kY6VQxEn22vZ-l2Owgp72WpU/s1600/greenleaf2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqD6aamnWFW01uCtUctpSZY53b_MLNpFyWDP5CPyjjhEdoHzFeMTdYl3CvUj_BLREpgRQGaOPm2cQWwc3lNGgIe0rIYd2lYI6C8PyOOhe9ZZ7MjAUwQW7kY6VQxEn22vZ-l2Owgp72WpU/s400/greenleaf2.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Something as simple as this scented flower diffuser is a great decorative piece and doubles as a room freshner......$22.00!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsSF7FLb9T5imfZmLIaXZ1dt4lbusDnhLs5mqGLhBrfxfURFw2EaNVvDcEhQTxK0EOcp6wpbSqWcb3UARhseND-yWPYfZgdCN5W2MKm57BGODa-QPs24WhzXwpeEzxe8A-Qbjl-vTtTYo/s1600/pillows.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsSF7FLb9T5imfZmLIaXZ1dt4lbusDnhLs5mqGLhBrfxfURFw2EaNVvDcEhQTxK0EOcp6wpbSqWcb3UARhseND-yWPYfZgdCN5W2MKm57BGODa-QPs24WhzXwpeEzxe8A-Qbjl-vTtTYo/s400/pillows.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
If you have a chair or sofa that needs a change, everyone knows pillows are the quickest and easiest thing to add. These monochromatic pillows all have embroidery or some special feature, but their prices range from $42 (for down filled) all the way up to $242! Wow, how can they be so different? All we can say is look for yourself, you might not be able to guess, or you might know immediately. It's a good example of our varied price ranges.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFxInVWTyY7SUXqqV3nHVeucz5Aybpky3WPsOuxlZX-brfC9Jlp2vV4HQvimsJuJWY6Qp8OhsZRoOsoyJcpP-YK05PGehF5kp-T0b1sZKStEtmmVSF7P2w-UnuN70Q804i4eqBjyL8H5k/s1600/yellow+vases.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFxInVWTyY7SUXqqV3nHVeucz5Aybpky3WPsOuxlZX-brfC9Jlp2vV4HQvimsJuJWY6Qp8OhsZRoOsoyJcpP-YK05PGehF5kp-T0b1sZKStEtmmVSF7P2w-UnuN70Q804i4eqBjyL8H5k/s400/yellow+vases.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
You might already have a vase that just needs a touch of spring, so adding a $5.00 stem might take care of that. Or adding a bright yellow smaller piece, like the one on the right, might be all your coffee table needs to look brighter....$15.00.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpmOlu-z41Y86uKYnbed8NOuyMgnl_NoMVvib1keFXlY5aEjaK5ugsv5hieGyWb30D8Sx3ZoeN5o5LELvcRzsinQ0Wt12JsINFxIWBORNzvMABTHvOksO65RInP94a8pEwvktJvMgkSsI/s1600/vases2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpmOlu-z41Y86uKYnbed8NOuyMgnl_NoMVvib1keFXlY5aEjaK5ugsv5hieGyWb30D8Sx3ZoeN5o5LELvcRzsinQ0Wt12JsINFxIWBORNzvMABTHvOksO65RInP94a8pEwvktJvMgkSsI/s400/vases2.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
These vases range from $14 to $125 each. If you just need a little added color or you need a special piece for your antique china cabinet, you are likely to find it at MLI. One of our more popular items are our paperweights, with many of them at $12 each and we often are able to carry some for only $6 (of course they sell out the fastest!).<br />

One of our newest additions, from the Parisian Loft collection, made by Precedent Furniture, features many ways to customize your sofa according to how you like to relax.<br />
<br />
That might sound like an odd way to order a sofa, but we will probably ask you if you like a firm seat or a "sink into the sofa" seat. Also, do you sit straight on or prefer to curl up with your legs underneath you. <br />
<br />
You might be familiar with choosing fabrics and colors, but now there is even more to decide.....but they are easy decisions! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFXMob62kSPuQNo_CibUAxShI2lJIIbTWm76gAUW-2XC5nfrt-gh1cL_X_45SPopnZzk5ICuSiePMp5PZlgBXz2SuzvM8bZYX3StK1uucy-e5DRCzJi-q_UlnA8DTDKFiAdG6m66Z91Ns/s1600/parisian1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="123" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFXMob62kSPuQNo_CibUAxShI2lJIIbTWm76gAUW-2XC5nfrt-gh1cL_X_45SPopnZzk5ICuSiePMp5PZlgBXz2SuzvM8bZYX3StK1uucy-e5DRCzJi-q_UlnA8DTDKFiAdG6m66Z91Ns/s400/parisian1.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
This particular series of furniture gives us 2 options for the depth. If you like to curl up and watch TV, you'll definitely want a deeper seat. Or if you are purchasing a sofa for a small scale room, or your back requires you to sit more upright, the smaller depth would be what you are looking for.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiApGeLVxg_3G8aff57myYVFNvbLGJH33zhlBkfoaPrTJok5AXgMMTdrBWOa66JlfVaIXL4dE_mbehwYJzQC0AALro2w52TMAQGhQgQuSIuroD6Sb0NR1gHg-dkbQjccFXopVzf8V6pWk8/s1600/Parisian2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiApGeLVxg_3G8aff57myYVFNvbLGJH33zhlBkfoaPrTJok5AXgMMTdrBWOa66JlfVaIXL4dE_mbehwYJzQC0AALro2w52TMAQGhQgQuSIuroD6Sb0NR1gHg-dkbQjccFXopVzf8V6pWk8/s400/Parisian2.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Now choose your components: sectional pieces, chaise, ottoman, chair, etc.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinYTaOosIhx1p2DEAhNaHzk9WT2Ds967WZb2AwiryJIh0Zs0qiuOk_LVuXAd03wQLX0FXcBgs1nYQqIxcSE3ygIy72s0tLM-iLij59j5at12e6B16I0_W_EK6ksxCHylWx4ozCIvV6TlU/s1600/parisian3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="253" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinYTaOosIhx1p2DEAhNaHzk9WT2Ds967WZb2AwiryJIh0Zs0qiuOk_LVuXAd03wQLX0FXcBgs1nYQqIxcSE3ygIy72s0tLM-iLij59j5at12e6B16I0_W_EK6ksxCHylWx4ozCIvV6TlU/s400/parisian3.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
The Parisian Loft series also has 3 arms to choose from, which are more slender than arms styles from several years ago. This works out great with side tables and take up a lot less space in a room, giving more area for actual seating. The Track arm is generally considered to be more contemporary, with the Small Roll arm more traditional. The Flare are reminds us of the English Arm style which has been around forever and is great to mix into more any decor.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVy0z4l8nzbSvtnhm4vnccHGINXqIMgNOd_MfcMTmvTnQndpTgxW1To6_Scrf0l6-RBpAUEoETeSZthF67NZiE1sUrZ-hMF4Uf7ssx-Y8fGEn6TUt541S8t-_dXoWVN4hfCN2KWpqBlYk/s1600/parisian4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="281" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVy0z4l8nzbSvtnhm4vnccHGINXqIMgNOd_MfcMTmvTnQndpTgxW1To6_Scrf0l6-RBpAUEoETeSZthF67NZiE1sUrZ-hMF4Uf7ssx-Y8fGEn6TUt541S8t-_dXoWVN4hfCN2KWpqBlYk/s400/parisian4.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The back style has 2 choices, as seen above. The boxed cushion is traditional but more tailored in appearance with the cording. The knife edge has a more casual look, but not sloppy. These cushions fit on the back of the sofa and are not to be confused with scatter cushions. The nice thing about unattached cushions are that they can be rotated to keep them from looking smashed down if you tend to sit in the same place everyday.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFeZ9_ucS-hGs-Idcs-gDbUAEKwqWsPAjvJtP69doQWV-8_4eRdwCSC7biCI_J3OYIlk458z0NreEIXQrSicLjiow1R3xB__eFbMdmzPVBQ8y0sBWZj7EJBhscKqEavIAHcumaEGL6vto/s1600/parisian5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="317" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFeZ9_ucS-hGs-Idcs-gDbUAEKwqWsPAjvJtP69doQWV-8_4eRdwCSC7biCI_J3OYIlk458z0NreEIXQrSicLjiow1R3xB__eFbMdmzPVBQ8y0sBWZj7EJBhscKqEavIAHcumaEGL6vto/s400/parisian5.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
As mentioned before, welting adds a tailored look, while the unwelted cushions might look less fussy and could also be considered more contemporary. We have recently been noticing more furniture without welting in all styles and designs. A note on that is that some welting can be the first to show wear, and the double stitching on the unwelted cushion doesn't.<br />

Finally, some of the finished options put together to give you an idea of what your piece will look like. If you have small children or pets, remember to ask us about fabrics that are easy to clean. All of our furniture companies are expanding that area of their fabric lines. The look of pet-friendly fabrics, as we sometimes call them, has come a long way. <br />

There's a lot more to tell you about our furniture lines, but we'd rather do that in person. You'll be happy to know that our newest line is also made in the US, as we feel that is an important factor in custom upholstery. Each piece can be ordered to your specifications, or if you like what we have in your store, we'll have it delivered ASAP.Madison Lanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01022593542276855220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7560089491838885541.post-26949525076224187432016-01-04T08:04:00.000-06:002016-01-04T08:04:47.646-06:00New Store Hours for 2016<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">We gave it the "ole college try"! For the last 2 years, Madison Lane has been open on Saturdays and closed on Mondays. We were hoping the new location would draw in weekend shoppers. </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Now, for 2016</b>, we have taken a look at the traffic patterns for the area and the many people saying they missed us on a Monday, and decided to go with the flow! Especially looking at our immediate neighbors, Dr. Hayes and Dr. Skaggs who are both open on Mondays, it appears our area is geared for the <b>Monday through Friday</b> shoppers. Even though Rangeline Road can be a frightening place on the weekends ;) it seems that is where everyone is going.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #0c343d;"><span style="font-size: large;"><b>OPEN: MON - FRI 11:00-5:00</b></span></span> </span></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">If you were one of our Saturday shoppers, just be aware that will are still available for you on that day, just call and we'll make arrangements. We realize many people shopping for furniture pieces need to bring their spouse in on a Saturday, and we are fine if you give us a 'heads up' on your visit. </span></span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> The majority of appointments are made during the weekdays at 9:00 am if possible. That allows us to be back in the shop by 11:00 or have someone covering the store for a few short hours if necessary. We do quite a few "<b>color consultations</b>" during the week, and I'm not talking haircolor!!! If you need a change and are thinking of painting, give us a call, we can help you get started on your redecorating project. Also, <b>measuring </b>for window treatments, matching up fabrics for various projects, etc, are all examples of a typical morning appointment.</span></span><br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMyM1tcQoYmwAORvKG0wOpxFuC0mUv4V6qHsOAVnZvSfmzx0nQJyvmXbTqs010I2k-xi1EdUvmJVpHWTlWxz9K3iKwLfsdk52tztHyWZDfox1Yi_u9AuiMlIqoXYWSWNK2TQyEgyOMUHg/s1600/precedent.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="273" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMyM1tcQoYmwAORvKG0wOpxFuC0mUv4V6qHsOAVnZvSfmzx0nQJyvmXbTqs010I2k-xi1EdUvmJVpHWTlWxz9K3iKwLfsdk52tztHyWZDfox1Yi_u9AuiMlIqoXYWSWNK2TQyEgyOMUHg/s400/precedent.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"> For over 30 yrs, every piece of Precedent upholstered furniture has been meticulously and sustainably crafted for exceptional value. They offer over 500 fabrics to choose from, several finishes for no extra charge, custom styling, and the very best cushions for each frame, ensuring that each piece is as comfortable as it is stylish.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv3yeFNCaeMQSNuDqdI9uui6vYS9_989JQeBd84Y5J2905WrEOlrNuPJxXdeh-64ZXNZmsTY1Zqa0hSHxoELP-hyQfJ1_J5h_3i2tpIw6TeFqPn5cjzo-e6nnxgVSzXwdJG05zam6w9Ww/s1600/precedent2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv3yeFNCaeMQSNuDqdI9uui6vYS9_989JQeBd84Y5J2905WrEOlrNuPJxXdeh-64ZXNZmsTY1Zqa0hSHxoELP-hyQfJ1_J5h_3i2tpIw6TeFqPn5cjzo-e6nnxgVSzXwdJG05zam6w9Ww/s400/precedent2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"> The styling on many pieces of Precedent furniture tends to be cleaner lines, less fuss but very "on trend". We sat in every piece in the showroom when we visited the showroom in High Point and can honestly say they were all comfortable. Of course we had our favorites, and we did take notes so we can tell you all about them!</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">OK, what kind of prices are you talking about, you might be saying by now. Precedent is considered a mid-range priced furniture. You will be very pleased in the pricing, as we were! </span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOOoythWHu4gcMS2qxdUfEcWKhRaNh95BKQSKGA1GwJSqUlMno9xC-4p1RmqBHthEnT80WtBOwhDQ54MxPzCbfJDPFwlPL93DVcFu9tRRRVe9_BlfpXULlGc9PFMPoZx3TUnHrMZSUs4o/s1600/precedent-furniture-10-5-couch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOOoythWHu4gcMS2qxdUfEcWKhRaNh95BKQSKGA1GwJSqUlMno9xC-4p1RmqBHthEnT80WtBOwhDQ54MxPzCbfJDPFwlPL93DVcFu9tRRRVe9_BlfpXULlGc9PFMPoZx3TUnHrMZSUs4o/s400/precedent-furniture-10-5-couch.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> The sofa/chaise shown in the above photo will be one of the pieces we are getting with our first order. We were impressed with a chaise than can be switched to the other side, and not fixed on only one side forever. This was always something to consider when buying such a set up, and moving to another house which might not allow a right side chaise/sofa. Another plus is the ability to switch cushions to reduce wear on just one all the time.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> Precedent also offers customized beds, available as full beds or headboards only. The shapes and heights, styles and fabrics are all up to you. </span></span><br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrHxsF7pJFup6rIFyDERONYr58iedbVIuhJXu5kWBy2E8_UXIFWyoFMxSfzKkSYFs2eKdkSpIRDjPUFnFsJSA7JHe01fEEiBoIx0-UsXopZwhhjEGGgFNcFAIfol-xgo18vHaGUX_ZVUU/s1600/after.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrHxsF7pJFup6rIFyDERONYr58iedbVIuhJXu5kWBy2E8_UXIFWyoFMxSfzKkSYFs2eKdkSpIRDjPUFnFsJSA7JHe01fEEiBoIx0-UsXopZwhhjEGGgFNcFAIfol-xgo18vHaGUX_ZVUU/s640/after.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">If you have a separate dining area you know the issues I'm about to mention. Most of these rooms are on the front of the house, so the window is visible to everyone driving by. If this window faces the west you may need a more than one line of defense against the setting sun (since most dinners will be during this time).</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Another issue is how to warm up a room that has so many wooden pieces in it and very little upholstery. An area rug may help, but if you pass through part of your dining room into the next room, the corner of a rug might end up running into the middle of the traffic area. Or if your room is narrow, it could cause a problem with a hutch or sideboard.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">One of the best places to use floor length drapery ends up being in a dining room. It can solve several of these issues. First one is that it adds some softness to an otherwise "hard" room. Another reason is to filter the sunlight and provide privacy (or at least semi-privacy as shown above). Other rooms have upholstery and small tables that may be hard to place if a floor length panel is in the way, but a dining room doesn't seem to have this problem.</span><br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2sbj-1ciBrxqTAeVLY6SET2jJYWpYemwAnHwA7_GjaDj3Lv5-MEdPqG9TShJ3arjmDFxHDrJwinn4jSNrl1I2D8qWryOdNVCe_GHfQh4OOYc_JEWJIV2UyrQT1YicgI3yqbYyIrB1ZH8/s1600/throws.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2sbj-1ciBrxqTAeVLY6SET2jJYWpYemwAnHwA7_GjaDj3Lv5-MEdPqG9TShJ3arjmDFxHDrJwinn4jSNrl1I2D8qWryOdNVCe_GHfQh4OOYc_JEWJIV2UyrQT1YicgI3yqbYyIrB1ZH8/s1600/throws.png" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Once we start hearing the weatherman mention Fall, we are all too ready to pull out our heavier quilts, and other Fall decor. One of our favorite things that will add another layer of texture and color is a throw. They come in many sizes and colors, and all price ranges. Looking through the online picture book, <a href="http://www.houzz.com/" target="_blank">Houzz</a>, we found some great uses for your pretty and useful throws.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMx_M6OjSDetiVeXFrbnYUPNxwF5_-Tz-BCaT5pppj_cAZlbSEP52d2I2HRsFTSOJsug1PfgUH8t4bhURzLG_qnj_ED2I-ZUNQdJAffSHxyqnjjSASABRcf9zOjoSvdCUFpxkOUZN-APw/s1600/throws_001.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMx_M6OjSDetiVeXFrbnYUPNxwF5_-Tz-BCaT5pppj_cAZlbSEP52d2I2HRsFTSOJsug1PfgUH8t4bhURzLG_qnj_ED2I-ZUNQdJAffSHxyqnjjSASABRcf9zOjoSvdCUFpxkOUZN-APw/s400/throws_001.png" width="318" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.houzz.com/" target="_blank">Houzz</a></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"> </td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"> </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Now that we are ready to use our outside living spaces again (most of us did not do much entertaining during the HOT summer), how about adding something to stay cozy after the sun goes down? The added layer of the blankets/throws makes this little table so much more inviting, and if you don't have a lantern, we have several of those, too!!</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5rnEw7ChfPu_bfYxQL2T9hMGJysn05pc-DAKXCCy_pQGkJ1qN63Mv2mxKUeiACVX8MaACp2eCuhue0SrAJ8-yl4dkN9D8ZvGsAh-zT_6MwzyW5yRj9O8zL7coflXF7px6G5jk0mQx_tQ/s1600/throws_002.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5rnEw7ChfPu_bfYxQL2T9hMGJysn05pc-DAKXCCy_pQGkJ1qN63Mv2mxKUeiACVX8MaACp2eCuhue0SrAJ8-yl4dkN9D8ZvGsAh-zT_6MwzyW5yRj9O8zL7coflXF7px6G5jk0mQx_tQ/s1600/throws_002.png" /></a></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.houzz.com/" target="_blank">Houzz</a></td></tr>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The small throw on the chair is a good example that not all throws need to be large or bulky. A smaller, more inexpensive, but colorful throw breaks up the expanse of grey so that it blends more easily into this less serious mix of throw pillows and art. The orange could easily be replaced with a cream or aqua throw for the summer months.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.houzz.com/" target="_blank">Houzz</a></td></tr>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">You might have picked up a blanket on vacation at some point in your travels but not sure how to display it. This monochromatic bedroom was quickly warmed up with this throw. The darker colors and imperfect fringe add an organic feel and also keep the space from looking too cold for the upcoming months. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Everyone would love a sweet little nook like the one above. However, it wouldn't look nearly as inviting without the green herringbone throw just begging you to curl up with a good book!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And if the look of a "throw" seems to casual for your sense of style, we can always design a custom made blanket for your room. The one show above may not be any larger than shown, although you could design one that is a little large and more usable. We can see that it adds that extra layer of design that helps finish off this room and helps balance out the decor. A suggestion would also be made on a custom throw: make it reversible! A smaller pattern with more of the orange would be a great choice on the backside of this one ;)</span><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.houzz.com/" target="_blank">Houzz</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">These chair just got all dressed up for Fall!! If you haven't thought about folding your throw on the center of your chairs, give it a try. The color choice is great for this room, and if you are looking for even more of an Autumn look, just change out the white pillows for something darker.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFVm2mdTQaQToKrKwir0Lr_hBm53rAsBBilVMz4EFl6VyvYp6qktTTW2tBHxS1pIGKWrS1kzSHfYh7fTqBHvwzu9YvHEBTYDRc8mcqO4GzTkB0nzo5_O8uSAjoDkr4S7gDOP9EW3qddRI/s1600/throws_002.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="296" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFVm2mdTQaQToKrKwir0Lr_hBm53rAsBBilVMz4EFl6VyvYp6qktTTW2tBHxS1pIGKWrS1kzSHfYh7fTqBHvwzu9YvHEBTYDRc8mcqO4GzTkB0nzo5_O8uSAjoDkr4S7gDOP9EW3qddRI/s400/throws_002.png" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.houzz.com/" target="_blank">Houzz</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> Don't forget those ottomans, they need some dressing, too. Although this one isn't as "fallish" as some of the others, you get the idea of changing up the look. We like a more casual look with the throw laying over an ottoman so it can be quickly picked up and used! A scrunched throw just adds the fullness of the folds and looks just as nice and more usable--perfect for a family room. A more formal approach is shown above, and does seem appropriate for the area. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Of course we haven't been around for 100 yrs, but some of the homes we have done work in have been here for more than a century. Looking at our last 2 installations, I realize there is about 120 yrs difference in age between the two homes!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I think that says a lot about our "style" of decorating: it should be appropriate for the home and the homeowner. We always work WITH our clients as much as FOR them. Although many people might say "I wish you would just decorate my home" we know they really don't mean it....entirely. Everyone should live in a home that reflects their likes and feel comfortable and inviting. Our homes are an extension of ourselves, but we can't always find all the finishing touches, or achieve the look we want without some additional input. It's difficult to look at our personal belongings with an objective eye, and that's where a decorator comes in handy.</span><br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDQfUO5J0m4QJZBmem30A0PU6ZhbzgjZuFU22YL7hhXStps2CbgW6BEIKqIP4TVUUJNszNkJsvxJk5zX-oi6VKzSGsQkE0znfoChwLzbk4aAuFt-XRzVXa3gLtRH7do2VX9KdqGhEDtE0/s1600/SketchGuru_20150527212239.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDQfUO5J0m4QJZBmem30A0PU6ZhbzgjZuFU22YL7hhXStps2CbgW6BEIKqIP4TVUUJNszNkJsvxJk5zX-oi6VKzSGsQkE0znfoChwLzbk4aAuFt-XRzVXa3gLtRH7do2VX9KdqGhEDtE0/s400/SketchGuru_20150527212239.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">We recently finished a living room drapery project that involved a large double window, which was flanked by a door and a built-in cabinet. Privacy was already taken care of, but the need for color and balance to the room was the next issue. I'm showing the photo in black and white to emphasize the balance the height of the drapes/rod gave to this focal wall.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc9jueOvTEUnvJd7EVKaYFSBccQf7eXkZ9bmPJo6HIUlpurFojguPq7Mqy-yJy4gTwypTrkyur5g17edEvfqaN9J6bc85jnhVLNzHHMvOXjdXvBfcPy7cfLdpasJXHg7LrKTE3oL0_0L0/s1600/20150331_115630-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="233" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc9jueOvTEUnvJd7EVKaYFSBccQf7eXkZ9bmPJo6HIUlpurFojguPq7Mqy-yJy4gTwypTrkyur5g17edEvfqaN9J6bc85jnhVLNzHHMvOXjdXvBfcPy7cfLdpasJXHg7LrKTE3oL0_0L0/s400/20150331_115630-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></span><span style="font-size: small;">I called this wall a "focal wall" because it's what you see as soon as you enter the home. Where do your eyes go at first glance? Mine went all around the room, looking for the one area that was wanting to stand out. The left side has a fireplace and shelving, which is lovely on it's own, and the right side is the kitchen. We are left with the central area that was not getting the "pulled together" look it was lacking.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: small;">After restyling the shelves with accents of bright greens/citron, shades of teal and a touch of orange, we knew we needed a fabric with some strong color, but not in-you-face color.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRmuydc1HQh-xN7AjxzpqfWRJ6FOBAwHnv8JwUkJ1gvUak40TARyl8bat053mk5BxFzVdeOHyeSrBC62tFYGQwD3eJRr8beVqoOOhjJIEa_EKkla_BVthieqsIHtkkFhf-hhN3GOmtHQQ/s1600/RM+CoCo+wind+pattern+cloud+color.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRmuydc1HQh-xN7AjxzpqfWRJ6FOBAwHnv8JwUkJ1gvUak40TARyl8bat053mk5BxFzVdeOHyeSrBC62tFYGQwD3eJRr8beVqoOOhjJIEa_EKkla_BVthieqsIHtkkFhf-hhN3GOmtHQQ/s200/RM+CoCo+wind+pattern+cloud+color.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: small;">The picture doesn't do much justice to the beautiful colors of the fabric. The touches of color in the nature inspired print actually appear to be painted. It was easily the favorite as soon as we saw it.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: small;">Looking at the before photo, you can see that three panels were what we needed for this particular room. Here are the reasons: </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"> 1. Color was needed behind the sofa.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"> 2. Hides the strip of drywall separating the windows---2 panels would have left us staring at </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"> the gap between the windows.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"> 3. Two panels would require more fullness in each of them for better balance, and </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"> having too much fullness by the shelves and door was not a good idea. Three single </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"> width panels give the added fullness to break up the rod expanse.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0-D0OabalTyCbF5x2zmz6bmSN4n-M5njysZuLA5iYbn8dL78a9G1n2FwiZUf06T-8VG0ahfCPgvWWWvNl-xwh3ZnexVZmpUdQNP-8Rwxp_VhyphenhyphenK4WtFnNEO3vdDF5q0xA4twHWTTWEOyg/s1600/20150522_161531.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="301" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0-D0OabalTyCbF5x2zmz6bmSN4n-M5njysZuLA5iYbn8dL78a9G1n2FwiZUf06T-8VG0ahfCPgvWWWvNl-xwh3ZnexVZmpUdQNP-8Rwxp_VhyphenhyphenK4WtFnNEO3vdDF5q0xA4twHWTTWEOyg/s400/20150522_161531.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;">We love the final results!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;">We are currently working on another project, but I can give you a peek into the renderings we have shown the client.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;">The client is liking the photo with the four panels. These will be operational, as well. The rod we have chosen is a decorative traverse, and is NOT cord driven, so the drapery will be able to traverse as desired by using a baton/wand. Yes, that is available as one of the specialized items we are able to offer our customers. </span></div>

If you look up "console" in Wikipedia (where else???), their first definition is that it is used as a device for playing video games. Well.....that's not our first thought.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghgJ-VI-biVg2xPVbgfnfPsEUvSq4LWmF4Du6lxqdCYbxAejnN5bEOo7tYKNYtvHmGLxKtsqMLNo0dVf3rytpXzX7U2cARKAX35kXqAiHftKtui21qO_qwU69DogSI2JZqVSd2RK06-WY/s1600/console.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghgJ-VI-biVg2xPVbgfnfPsEUvSq4LWmF4Du6lxqdCYbxAejnN5bEOo7tYKNYtvHmGLxKtsqMLNo0dVf3rytpXzX7U2cARKAX35kXqAiHftKtui21qO_qwU69DogSI2JZqVSd2RK06-WY/s1600/console.jpg" height="640" width="388" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Our current</span> favorite is about to be delivered to one of our customers, but luckily, it can be reordered! This one is about 60" wide, which we have found to be a good size, and about 15" deep. It's also a little taller than some, which is a plus in a lot of situations. The lattice front will provide a nice texture to the room it will be going to, but the light wood finish will keep it from looking to "weighty" in the otherwise small space.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">We see consoles used in hallways, foyers, dining rooms, and most commonly under our TV's. An open bottom console provides a place to store an extra little ottoman or bench, or a good spot to place baskets which help contain some of the smaller things that have no where else to go!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">We have the availability to order custom sized consoles from Hickory Chair, so if you have looked endlessly for that perfect size with no luck, we can take care of it!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Of course I cruised the Houzz website for some other uses and styles of consoles:</span><br />

We do this ourselves for our clients, and have learned many tricks and tips from various showrooms on our trips to market. However, Studio A was kind enough to put some good basic ideas in print, usually only meant for retailers eyes.........but as a Valentines Day treat we are going to share!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #cc0000;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioJifvuEVfw_kxGIGWdbI-7vgaCSJmAWk7E1ujnr7nuOxKihu9H5Gm8hpkh6rqbcoEASPlN8lOUXo70TlqcsMVeme40SWP7IziYdRLrlS8ZvDI_u8q0YNTMvhAFGR7vtgzK_NQbyjPgXs/s1600/shelves.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioJifvuEVfw_kxGIGWdbI-7vgaCSJmAWk7E1ujnr7nuOxKihu9H5Gm8hpkh6rqbcoEASPlN8lOUXo70TlqcsMVeme40SWP7IziYdRLrlS8ZvDI_u8q0YNTMvhAFGR7vtgzK_NQbyjPgXs/s1600/shelves.JPG" height="536" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<br />
First thing to note here is the use of a textured wallpaper for the background. This particular grasscloth has an organic feel to it, making it a good background for this client's collection. By covering most of the books with white paper, the more important books stood out, along with the various glass accessories.<br />
<br />
After taking your background into consideration, look at what you have the most of, possibly books, and hopscotch them on alternating shelves from left to right. Try placing the books in horizontal and vertical positions. If your collection is another object, like vases for example, the same principle would apply.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFhjiysLyvfbvnrDUl84gGm1tXMbBZQcMPD-_jNqMzMEJh-7kpXjbtHGTQZ1nXV_7o8RJYj4wWkopNZmGICLM2-MbJLqgSUzNtS4Q33FhmP1btUDf4SLOjjCwZaC8heA0RqDxQQWReJZ8/s1600/shelves2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFhjiysLyvfbvnrDUl84gGm1tXMbBZQcMPD-_jNqMzMEJh-7kpXjbtHGTQZ1nXV_7o8RJYj4wWkopNZmGICLM2-MbJLqgSUzNtS4Q33FhmP1btUDf4SLOjjCwZaC8heA0RqDxQQWReJZ8/s1600/shelves2.JPG" height="392" width="400" /></a></div>
Often smaller pieces of art are lost hanging on a wall, so adding them as background to your bookcase is a great way to add some color, and start the layering process. Work from the back of the shelf to the front, placing the largest items in back and layer forward with the smaller items so they are all visible.<br />
<br />
If you are adding additional hidden storage (and decorative boxes are a popular item right now), make sure they are consistent in look or feel. Use similar finishes or colors so it doesn't look cluttered.<br />
<br />
Notice the collection of metal owls on the shelves in the first picture, we call that a "graphic grouping", since they are "like" items. By combining the collection you will get more of a visual impact. The same idea was done with the vases in the top shelf.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red;">Winter is a great time to look over those neglected bookcases! Go ahead, take everything off those</span> <span style="color: red;">shelves and start "restyling"! </span></div>

It'll be hard to be any more hectic than our move into our new location which actually started on December 26, 2013. Our New Year's Eve was spent unpacking and still moving into the shop. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiLDKG0JdEXw6jnoJC3tKUFz-2GFC95lT-tGmJ4busEsKs4R2ZjGP-PMaPRBnhOyihkzXxiWLRBWIhaP_9zUt_UntawD98uXj58iJYklYjIKR9DmbCWa56IS9hyt1CJjm9DjptDDVo4wU/s1600/before2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiLDKG0JdEXw6jnoJC3tKUFz-2GFC95lT-tGmJ4busEsKs4R2ZjGP-PMaPRBnhOyihkzXxiWLRBWIhaP_9zUt_UntawD98uXj58iJYklYjIKR9DmbCWa56IS9hyt1CJjm9DjptDDVo4wU/s1600/before2.jpg" height="230" width="400" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's the wide open space we were looking at just before we started unloading our store. Of course we had to add several more display pieces to help fill the space. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2hOrRh2gBHh33jLxbichcwiREbBKqCszv8yBKBjyqcIGpcW0-LTh-YTFK7ZMdDVqSwS8voFbb_NiQuwI_-gNRrQ1VDgjQEitZ5wblQbaGtoVRNNXPQDQjYOoh-LxO1Iwhj8ob_1cn_uM/s1600/after.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2hOrRh2gBHh33jLxbichcwiREbBKqCszv8yBKBjyqcIGpcW0-LTh-YTFK7ZMdDVqSwS8voFbb_NiQuwI_-gNRrQ1VDgjQEitZ5wblQbaGtoVRNNXPQDQjYOoh-LxO1Iwhj8ob_1cn_uM/s1600/after.jpg" height="181" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And here is a shot from the same area, taken last week. Needless to say, we have filled the space and continually look for better ways to show off our furniture while still adding more. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Luckily, I can't find any photos that might be titled "during" ;)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now for some of our New Year's Resolutions:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
~Our "Seasonal" items will consist of "Giftable" items, not so much decor that has to be stored by you or MLI. Although, we have had requests to carry some floral decor, and we do like orchids and carry quite a few stems already so we can keep the shop looking up-to-date.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
~Our furniture inventory will increase. Our plan is to have more options to buy or at least try out before you place an order. There are several furniture pieces that can be made as a chair or a sofa, which helps us with space. Also adding consoles/sideboards, we hear a lot of customers looking for various sizes and styles. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
~We will keep as much wall art as we can....we have the walls for it! Our starting prices are around $60, so there's definitely something for a wide range of homes and styles.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
~Gift items we want to add include beautifully packaged soaps and notecards. Look for more books in the store, too. They range from kid's books to books for the graduate. There is no end to lovely items at market, and we want our customers to know how easy it is to find a special gift at MLI. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
~We do intend on keeping up on all the continuing education we can, be it webinars, seminars, or updates from our reps. There is no time to fall behind on learning about the latest in window treatments, their control mechanisms just get better every year! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
~Staying current with our fabrics has always been on our list, and it still is. I was informed this week by a fabric rep that the USA is finally starting to mill some fabrics again! That's definitely good news for all of us. If you've been on the other end of this, you know "discontinued" is a four-letter-word in our business. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #073763;">We will be off to market next weekend, so be watching our Facebook page for more immediate updates. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #073763;">If you have a suggestion for something you are looking for, give us a call or come in. We always take a list with us to market, and we might even send you a photo for a second opinion! </span> </div>
<br />Madison Lanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01022593542276855220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7560089491838885541.post-18722230166767347322014-12-03T14:10:00.000-06:002014-12-03T14:10:22.576-06:00Drapery hardware: short rods or full length?Choosing the appropriate drapery hardware can be a challenge. "Off the rack" hardware is seldom the best solution---unless you are able to make some type of modification. One question we are asked quite often is "should I use one long rod or two shorter rods on my window?"<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Looking back at a few years ago, we still think this was a good choice:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">After</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Considering the pale color on the walls but dark dining room table, we felt that the rods should pick up the darker stain color. However, having one long "line" across the top would distract from the treatment itself. In this case we used 2 low profile finials, not wanting anything extravagant, but not too plain, either.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In recent weeks, we've been working on a sunroom with one large window and another wall with a window/sliding door grouping. The need for some type of fabric was obvious, although privacy was not needed from the drapery (the windows have blinds inside the glass), we knew full length panels would help soften the heavily trimmed windows, but still allowing most of it to be visible. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Before (wall with slider and 2 windows)</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"> </td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"> </td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: left;">
You can see that this room is all window, except for an inside wall and the entry. A full length rod over this expanse and onto the next wall (to the right) might start looking like a race track! It was decided we would treat each window to their own "dress panels". The appropriate fullness, without being too full and covering the view, was a huge factor in deciding the width/length. Did you notice there is no extra wall space by the windows to place any extra "stackback" from the drapery? There were several obstacles to work around.....</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

We hope to finish off this room next month, as soon as all the furniture arrives (notice the lonely table), and we'll get some overall photos of the room! If you are looking at the fine details, you'll notice that we didn't use finials on these rods, just endcaps. Drawing attention to the four different rods was not our intent, but rather to show-off the fabric. In addition to the expanse, we had to make sure we could have custom brackets fabricated due to the size of the window trim. The projection is larger than normal, so the "off the rack" hardware would have never worked. Thanks to our custom hardware vendor, <a href="http://www.helserbrothers.com/" target="_blank">Helser Brothers</a>, for helping us get the perfect solution for this beautiful home.</div>
